Molly Turner Lizard Wedding (2020- 2021) embroidered wool on fabric, 106cm x 75cm.
It’s easy to fall in love, but sometimes it’s not easy to be in love. This is something I have learned from being an ally to the LGBTQI+ community over the years. The struggle of blessing and acceptance from paternal roles when placing in front of them your sexuality might not be what they think it is. I have seen it first hand and it saddens me deeply. I suppose Lizard Wedding is a way of me dreaming up ideal scenarios, something I’m shocking for, and trying to place them in the real world through art. Since the bill passing in 2017 for same sex marriage to be legal in Australia, I glowed, thinking it was a brilliant way for people to sock it to their parents and prove their love by law and by commitment. I’m inspired by storytelling, and I just wanted to share a snippet of one here. Who knows the past and futures of these lizard ladies, maybe you could make it up?
